CV
- Born 1968.
- Finished
school
in 1987.
- Military service July 1987 - September 1988 (I am surprised
myself now while writing it).
- Mechanical engineering/aeronautics at RWTH
Aachen (FRG) from September 1988 -
September 1993. I visited the group of W.P. Jones at
Imperial College, London during an
undergraduate project and did my final project at Aachen's
institute for aerodynamics.
- PhD Thesis at
Laboratoire de Mécanique des
Fluides et d'Acoustique
(photo), Ecole Centrale de
Lyon (France), December
1993 - April 1997 with the title "A Study of Second-Moment
Turbulence Closures and Contribution towards Their Numerical
Solution in Compressible Flows". Related documents can be found
here.
- Postdoc (I) at E.T.S.I.
Aeronáuticos, Universidad
Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) from March 1998 until October 1999
in the group of J. Jiménez, working on the near-wall layer in
wall-bounded, incompressible turbulent flow and the numerical
investigation of possible control strategies. For more details visit
this url.
- Postdoc (II) in the Data and Computation group
(photo) at the Potsdam
Institute for Climate Impact Research,
Potsdam (Germany), November 1999 until February 2002, focussing on
small-scale instabilities and their role in the turbulent energy
cascade and analysis of flow data with the help of wavelet
bases. More here.
- In March 2002 I joined the Centro de
Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y
Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) in Madrid (Spain)
and ventured into the world of multi-phase flow. Until July 2008 I
was a member of the Modeling and Numerical Simulation
Unit.
- From June 2003 till May 2004 I stayed at Kyoto University
(Japan) working in the
group of M. Nagata which is part of the
Department of Aeronautics and
Astronautics.
The subject was the stability of pressure-driven and heated flow in
a straight duct with rectangular cross-section. Have a look
here.
- In August 2008 I joined the Institute for Hydromechanics at Karlsruhe Institute of
Technology in
Germany as head of the Computational Fluid Dynamics Group..
- Sabbatical leave (winter 2016/17) at the
University of Florida, working on particulate flow topics in S.
Balachandar's group (CCMT).
